Hendry Hall Christmas Panto

Hendry Hall’s 2024 Christmas PANTO*, “Cinderlola”, rocked! Presented by the all-volunteer North Vancouver Community Players, all 18 performances sold out! A twist on “Cinderella”, this live production featured 15 actors (including 7 youth) who sang and danced their hearts out.

My role was Costumer – manifesting the vision of the Writer and the Director with cloth, and sewing it. HH has a good costume selection, so I was able to draw from it. I modified many of the 18+ costumes to work for our production. However, I was pleased to design and stitch 4 main character costumes**. I worked closely with the lead actors to perfect each character’s look.

My first time in this role, I was mentored in live theatre procedure and etiquette and supported by gracious lady Margaret Lee, a 35-year veteran of Hendry Hall. (What an eye you have, and thank you for reminding me to lower my voice!).

What a whirlwind it was! And sew much sewing sew I was elated!

*The English Christmas Pantomime, a musical comedy designed for family entertainment, gained popularity during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I (1558-1603). Usually a twist on a fairy tale, the theatrical spectacle included stock characters who sang, danced, told jokes, and invited audience participation.
